The San Mateo South Bayfront Levee Improvements Project is designed to reduce flood risk for 8,000 local properties. The city’s public works department is working with FEMA to lower insurance rates in the area. In some cases, after the project is completed, residents will be exempt from flood insurance altogether. San Mateo citizens are cautiously optimistic about this proposed insurance rate reduction.
