Menlo School, a college preparatory academy in Menlo Park, Calif., created a mock trial program that allows high school students to participate in fictitious criminal court cases. The students learn to give opening and closing arguments, present cases and give testimony in real court rooms before a judge and a panel of professional lawyers who score their efforts.

This year, Menlo School won the San Mateo County mock trial championship, and the team will compete in the state championship later this month.
