Mountain View sparked the holiday season tonight with its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration in downtown’s Civic Center Plaza.
Many locals don’t realize Santa Clara County is home to about two dozen Christmas tree farms. But with the growing popularity of artificial, pre-lit trees, tree farmers’ sales drastically decreased in last 20 years.
Real Christmas trees leave a smaller carbon footprint than artificial ones, especially if replanted after the holidays. Artificial trees, however, can be eco friendly if they’re used for more than 20 years.
