Job Train in Menlo Park provides ex-convicts with job training and placement services. The culinary class, taught by Chef Adam Weiner, is one of the most popular classes offered by Job Train. Weiner not only teaches students the skills needed to succeed in a commercial kitchen, but his students also learn life skills, such as cooperation and responsibility.
Although many of these job training services have the best intentions, they do not have the funding to give all of their students the training and counseling that is often needed. Drug issues frequently lead to repeat incarcerations throughout California, where the recidivism rate 70 percent. Due to this lack of funding, Job Train cannot offer drug counseling to students in the class who need it.
