Sunnyvale-based medical robotics company Intuitive Surgical has garnered a lot of press in recent years for its da Vinci surgical robot. Intuitive’s Chairman of the Board of Directors and former CEO and President Lonnie Smith sat down with a Peninsula Press reporter to share his thoughts on innovation in Silicon Valley, and how his company and others in the United States can maintain their competitive edge.
“If I had one thing to do,” Smith said, “I would staple a green card to the diploma of every foreign-born national that gets a Ph.D. or master’s in science or engineering in the United States.”
