The highly anticipated Railroad Revival Tour, which features folk rock bands Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show, made its first stop Thursday night at Oakland’s Middle Shoreline Harbor Park.
Thousands of fans packed the sold-out grassy field-turned concert venue. At the urging of Edward Sharpe’s lead singer Alexander Ebert, they snapped pictures of the sun setting over the bay with the San Francisco cityscape in the background.
The show lasted from 6-10 p.m., and all three bands split stage time, playing a mix of fan favorites and new songs. The show’s encore, a cover of “This Train is Bound for Glory,” brought all three bands – about 20 musicians – to the stage.
The song was a fitting end to the concert, as the bands are traveling to all shows on the tour by rail, on a 1,500-foot-long, 13-car train with vintage streamlined silver 1948 California Zephyr cars. The week-long tour continues to San Pedro, Calif. tonight, and makes stops in Arizona and Texas before wrapping up in New Orleans on Wednesday.
