Local public transportation agencies are altering service for the Thanksgiving holiday and advising passengers to plan ahead.
On Thursday, Caltrain will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule, with trains departing hourly in each direction between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. No special or limited services will be offered.
On Friday — the day after Thanksgiving, normally the year’s busiest shopping day — trains are scheduled to operate using a modified Saturday schedule, which includes two express trains in each direction.
Buses with the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) will be running at much lower capacity on Thursday; SamTrans will offer holiday scheduled services on lines 17, 38, 110, 112, 120, 121, 122, 130, 280, 281, 296, 297, 390, 391, 292, 397 and KX with no other lines operating. Service on Friday will operate using a regular non-school day schedule.
In Santa Clara County, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will not be operating the Dumbarton Express, the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) Shuttles, light rail shuttles or most express bus and light rail service on Thanksgiving day. Regular bus and light rail services, as well as Express Bus 180, which connects Fremont and San Jose, will operate on a limited holiday schedule. The Highway 17 Express and Monterey-San Jose Express will also run on a limited basis.
In addition, Thursday’s Silicon Valley Turkey Trot road race in San Jose will alter the routes of bus lines 22 and 68 between 4 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Lines 23, 63, 64, 66, 72, 73, 82, 180 and the Monterey-San Jose Express will be also be affected between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.
On Friday, VTA plans to return to a regular schedule with the exception of the ACE Shuttles and light rail shuttles, which will remain canceled. The Highway 17 and Monterey-San Jose Express buses will remain on a holiday schedule, and all other express buses will remain offline, except lines 180, 181 and Rapid 522, which will operate as normal.
