Residents report communication lapses during Sunnyvale manhunt (PODCAST)

When a normally quiet Sunnyvale neighborhood became the center of a manhunt Oct. 5, residents were confined to their homes for hours. Police relied on news media to spread updates, but some crucial pieces of information fell through the cracks. The man they were searching for — Shareef Allman, the suspect in a shooting at a Cupertino cement quarry that left three dead and six injured — was cornered by deputies the next morning and killed himself amid a hail of gunfire.
