East Palo Alto is planning to turn the vacant Cooley Landing into a bayfront park. It will add nine more acres of parkland to a city that does not have the state’s recommended number of parks per 1,000 people.
At two parks in Redwood City, sand features have been permanently closed, due to recurring outbreaks of E. Coli bacteria in the sand itself. Renovations to change the sand to water features are underway.
Menlo Park’s City Council passed an ordinance banning smoking in public places. The law takes effect in November, giving the city one of the toughest smoking laws in the state.
