Caltrain did its part to keep the holiday season on track Saturday and Sunday. A train decorated with more than 60,000 lights made special stops at select stations throughout the Peninsula Saturday and Sunday. Carolers welcomed onlookers, and artificial snowflakes fluttered down while the Salvation Army collected toys at several stations.
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation sponsored the 10th annual holiday train, which returned after a two-year hiatus. The train carried festive Caltrain employees and members of the U.S. Marine Corps, who happily greeted families at each stop, though the public was not allowed to ride the train.
The holiday train departed from the San Francisco station, where a musical celebration took place Saturday. The train made 20-minute stops in Burlingame, Redwood City, Mountain View and Santa Clara on Saturday, and in Millbrae and San Mateo on Sunday.
