Labor rights, controversial Yelp reviews and school funding highlight the Peninsula Report (PODCAST)

On the Peninsula Report radio show, Roseann Cima delved into the controversy of Yelp reviews. Small businesses and restaurants claim Yelp is filtering out good reviews in an effort to get businesses to pay for advertising. Yelp leadership refutes the claim, saying its secret algorithm determines which reviews will appear on the site.

David Ruiz took a closer look at the funds from California’s former redevelopment agencies that are supposed to go to the state’s public schools. Because redevelopment agencies must first pay off debt, funds won’t reach the schools in many cities for decades.

Jennifer Gonzalez discussed her recent video series focusing on the lives of domestic workers today. Inspired by the Oscar-nominated movie “The Help,” Gonzalez and a team of reporters chronicled the lives of the women — mostly immigrants — who clean homes and care for children and the elderly in the Bay Area.
