Counting down the days: Mountain View residents forced to move for new development

New development in Mountain View is contributing to the city’s changing landscape, driving up rent and driving out longtime residents and businesses — a symptom of Silicon Valley’s widening inequality gap.

Darlene Gonzalez, 49, is one Mountain View resident being forced to leave her home of 35 years. It’s also served as the site of her pet care business, Petz Palz & Pawz. She was given 90 days notice at the beginning of the year to vacate her 550-square-foot house. At time of publication, she was still trying to find a place to go by her April deadline.
