Every May for the last 18 years, Mountain View’s A La Carte & Art festival transforms Castro Street into a sea of color and crafts, with more than 230 vendors filling downtown.

“The first year we had about 30 to 40 vendors,” said organizer Timothy Beeman, who anticipated about 50,000 people would attend the two-day event that took place on May 3 and 4. “It started out as a small community event and it’s morphed into the official kick-off to festival season.”

Each street block featured a different band, while food stands offered classic fair grub like grilled corn-on-the-cob and Cinco de Mayo favorites like tamales and quesadillas.

The festival also serves as a fundraiser for the Mountain View Central Business Association, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting business growth through community activities and events.
