Santa Clara County has beefed up its efforts to increase and encourage HIV- and sexually-transmitted-disease testing by offering free at-home HIV test kits and refunding The Crane Center, a county-funded health center in San Jose.
This push to make residents aware of their HIV status came in tandem with Santa Clara Supervisor Ken Yeager’s goal — as the county’s first openly gay elected official and president of the Board — to document the health-related concerns of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The report was created from a countywide survey. It revealed testing services as a top concern.
The video above takes a look into the county’s efforts.
