Fire and Ice — Stanford students celebrate Chanukah with 8-foot ice menorah (PHOTOS)

The Rohr Chabad House, the Jewish Student Center at Stanford, hosted holiday festivities with live music, tasty treats and a ceremonial lighting Tuesday night.

An 8-foot ice menorah graced Stanford’s White Plaza tonight in celebration of the fourth night of Chanukah. The community event, organized by the Rohr Chabad House, the Jewish Student Center at Stanford, featured speeches from Chabad’s president Mica Esquenazi and Rabbi Dov Greenberg.

Stanford President John Hennessey and Secretary of the Board of Trustees¬†Jeff Wachtel lit the menorah’s candles as the crowd sang blessings. Participants and spectators also enjoyed traditional potato pancakes, called latkes, as well as jelly donuts, hot chocolate and live music.
