Silicon Valley economic data, Sunnyvale plastic bag ban and HIV preventative drug stories headline Peninsula Report

Roseann Cima returned from Friday’s State of the Valley Conference in San Jose to reveal the findings of the new Silicon Valley Index report. The tech sector is seeing economic growth, but that wealth is not trickling down in Silicon Valley, as the median income level actually fell in 2011.

Emily DeRuy detailed a battle brewing between Foster City drug maker Gilead, which is seeking FDA approval for a preventative HIV pill, and the AIDS activist group that is urging more tests before the drug becomes commercially available.

And Eric Johnson discussed how Sunnyvale has joined the growing number of Bay Area cities that have banned plastic bags in retail stores, proving the effectiveness of the environmental lobby in the region.
