Stanford University’s second annual Frost Music and Arts Festival had a distinctly psychedelic vibe Saturday. Headliner MGMT brought the rock to Frost Amphitheater, while student artists displayed their vibrant experiential art installations around the outskirts of the venue. All of the works encouraged audience participation, whether this meant adding to a painting or taking a break in a balloon-laden geodesic dome.
The work was created by a group of 40 students enrolled in a new class in Stanford’s mechanical engineering department. The course is devoted to creating art for the festival. Projects ranged from performance art to bicycle powered spin-art to a 1970s inspired dorm room. Here’s a look through some of the festival’s most interesting installations.
